Thailand to purchase another 120 million vaccine doses for next year

Recommended Posts

Thailand’s National Vaccine Committee has approved the purchase of an additional 120 million vaccine doses for 2022. However, it has yet to approve a draft announcement on the export of AstraZeneca doses manufactured in Thailand, due to concerns over insufficient doses for Thai citizens. Thai PBS World reports that Nakorn Premsri from the National Vaccine Institute says the extra 120 million doses are earmarked for those who have yet to receive a dose, as well as those in need of booster shots. The plan is also to keep some doses in reserve, in the event of a further outbreak. He […]

Can anyone keep track of all the different orders of vaccines and when they will arrive ?

I lost track

I can. It's simple. As long as you only count the administered vaccines minus sinovac, you will get the correct figures. Procuring vaccines, signing contracts, registering people online, orders for next year are all saving faces to cover their failures. They had over a year grace period to prepare for this. If we accept the fact that only "real" vaccines can bring back "normalcy", then we just have to wait 6 more months before 2022.

Whoah, hold on lads, let's not rush into anything!

We're only 18 months into this global pandemic, who knows which way things will go?

So many problems in life, if you just ignore them they will often work themselves out. Like prostate cancer.

Yeah you got a point, even now you can read Pfizer is tweaking their formula to meet the changes. Maybe an MOU is the better way to start.

And now this. :)

AstraZeneca will delay its delivery of locally-produced vaccines, extending the delivery period until early next year, a deputy minister said on Thursday.

Who would have seen this coming?  I'm not going to go back and find all the articles where the government and especially the moron anutin was promising that the situation can be contained (well done) and the locally produced AZ vaccine rollout is going according to plan (well done too)  If you wanna say thank you to these idiots, you can do that here in Samui. They gathered on the beach to celebrate Samui reopen and the 5 FIVE foreign tourist (media workers) who arrived from Bangkok.

"Thailand’s National Vaccine Committee has approved the purchase of an additional 120 million vaccine doses for 2022."

An additional? When did the  government purchase the last 120 million vaccines?

Next year????

Thailand has about 70 million  population and thus far only about 5 percent of the population vaccinated.  What ever happened to the PM promise that by November 2021, 70 percent (49 million) of the population will be vaccinated?

From this news story, it appears no big rollout of vaccinations will happen until next year because government did not follow through on actual payment to the covid vaccine manufacturers.

Or was their thinking same as "I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today." ?

All they are announcing is the first step in a long purchasing pathway. i.e. they have placed an order!

When the vaccines are put into people's arms is dependent on a whole range of considerations. An agreed delivery schedule, supply availability (i.e. we have stock or it has to be made), payment terms etc. The longer the pathway, the more things can influence the ultimate supply (or not) and when.

I personally don't look at the announcements of an order, but rather what has been delivered and made available for people who are getting it. Final and paid delivery to the consumer (a person), to me, is the ultimate measure of success in any purchasing pathway.

At the moment, by that measure, success hasn't happened just yet to allow any celebration or announcements of value.

Yes sure millions....just read about the millions of Astra Zeneka. Spot on

How did Thailand get in this mess of not being able to secure enough Az supply from it's own local factory?

The timing on Delta's outbreak now should signal the government to consider Emergency action to reserve ALL available Az doses like what India did for Covishield.

"Sathit also said the drugmaker had the capacity to produce 15 million doses of vaccine per month at the Siam Bioscience production facility it is contracted with in Thailand and that capacity could expand in the future.

AstraZeneca was now promising to deliver 40% of what is produced at that facility to Thailand, Sathit said, adding that Thailand will ask the company for more doses."

15mil x 5 months x 40% = 30mil doses by Xmas, all going well.
