The main cause of accidents was speeding, followed by alcohol, though I'm sure the Songkran alcohol sales figures are similar each year. 

If anything, I'd be worried about a combination of alcohol/Meth abuse, which could translate into a YOY increase in road deaths and a slow decline in alcohol sales.  That decline possibly exacerbated with ganja use?  Stats can be manipulated to produce any desired result so I put very little store in figures published in Thailand.
