Nothing was achieved yesterday

The Fox fruit loops will still believe the lies

Dominion made money and the public lost

Dominiion didn't even care to make Fox have to state they lied on air

It was a money grab by them and nothing else...........

Dominion didn't "make money". On the contrary, the Fox campaign of disinformation cost it significantly. Employees were physically threatened. Part of the evidence included proof of death threats and the need for armed guards to protect people. Dominion lost contracts and suffered reputational damage. Even today there are Congress members who still drop innuendo like a chicken drops turds.  It was NOT a money grab. It was payment of compensatory damage for the financial loss incurred by the company as its brand and market value was  damaged, Senior executives and their families suffered harm requiring the company to incur financial costs to protect and to relocate, and includes a small penalty component.  I expect that a large portion of this settlement is covered by Fox's  Media Liability insurance  coverage (ssubject to co-pay and self retention) and a self insurance component which allows a beneficial tax treatment, i.e. that taxpayers of the USA will be indirectly covering part of the loss.

This may not be over with. This company is now free to pursue Trump and his henchmen for starting the lie in the first place.

Now how will Fox defend Trump then.

Fox will continue to provide support  for unfounded conspiracy claims for the simple reason that it will make them money. All those people who  watch Tucker Carlson or Laura Ingram allow Fox to  sell advertisement p;acement to US companies. The pillow guy will still be selling his pillows.  NASCAR will still partner with FOX.  Yes therew ill be other litigation, but that won't stop the machine.

What I really want to see is a retraction and apology from Carlson et al. And what I want to see are the  aggressive loudmouths who repeated the lies held accountable. Rudy Guiliani needs to be publicly shamed and held accountable, and to be blunt anyone and everyone who  repeated and spread the lies should be pursued and required to apologize and to pay a sum into a fund to repair the damage done. that's what is done with common vandals.

No mention of the lawsuit on Fox News today or from any of the anchors. Understandable…

I despise FOX but didn't understand that criticism(not from you)

I wouldn't expect them to report it, although I think they have but in vague terms

Yes, they deserve some damages but they did get 3x the value of the company and didn't push for any on air apology, to me that is a money grab

I don't blame them, but this wasn't some altruistic endeavor by them

Everything else I highly agree with you

And yes, they can write this settlement off

It was a big win for FOX, IMO

They don't care what the public thinks

They make money off of morons

So lying to those morons is profitable

This 775mil was just an expense to make 14bil

Fox news cant any more. Not after a $800000000 fine.

This means it cannot support Trump in any further conspiracy theories he will have.

And it will be unable to support him when Dominion come after him and his henchmen for spreading the lie in the first place.

This is a game changer. Its over for Trump.

I'd be inclined to think that the settlement was "global" insofar as it ended all claims against previously named Fox employees in this case. The last thing that Fox would want is to have the likes of Carlson and Hannitty exposed, as they would have very little reason to protect Fox if they were thrown under the bus.

There is little sign that the fall-out from this and related stories will die soon.

The WaPo reports that Mike Lindell (aka Pillow Guy) has been ordered by an arbitration panel, to pay $5 mill related to an offer he made of proof he made regarding "proof of interference" by the Chinese in the 2020 election. The "proof" was shredded by an IT specialist who also demonstrated that the data that Lindell provided was not realted to the 2020 election.

For those unfamiliar with Darnell, he was one of the primary sources of the false claims made against Dominion Voting Systems, who are currently suing him for $1.3 BN.

Darnell is currently appealing the abitration ruling. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2023/04/20/mike-lindell-prove-wrong-contest/?utm_campaign=wp_post_most&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_most&carta-url=https%3A%2F%2Fs2.washingtonpost.com%2Fcar-ln-tr%2F39c687b%2F64416907afd891675414cbcb%2F5f97e8a6ade4e21e5d469c53%2F8%2F72%2F64416907afd891675414cbcb&wp_cu=e6e39f28da4b7d3d27cf0281ebbbe366|B2A4662342850610E0530100007FD582

Just a thought, but as far as I can tell, this is the largest ever defamation award. Could it be that Fox read the room and sensed that they were also going to be punished for the contribution that their antics made to and after Jan 6th?

Had it gone to jury deliberation and I was on the jury, if there were no jury direction to the contrary, I would be arguing the point as follows: Trump tried to overturn the election, and the internal emails they produced at Fox, showed that they knew he was lying. Regardless of any duty that Fox had to the truth, they did have a duty not to lie and promulgate every lie every lie put forward by Trump. A reasonable person might conclude that Fox's actions helped pour petrol on the Jan 6th insurrection because they helped perpetutate the lie that the entire election was stolen and therefore the apt punishment is that Dominion should get the full award and they are seeking to send a message that it (jan 6th) cannot be allowed to happen again.

From a personal point of view, I'd be delighted to think that a significant portion of the award in this case, and in future related cases, have a "1/6 element."

I don't think his future will be that rosey. It was easy to  make the false allegations while at FOX because the company had deep pockets to finance a team of media specialist lawyers and could afford to pay  settlements.   The court case shows that Carlson willfully aided and abetted  dissemination of false information. He is now tainted. Wherever he goes, he will not have someone else paying his legal bills. He will now be a target and subject to litigation every time he makes a questionable statement.  He  is a multi millionaire many times over. A humble man would just lay low and enjoy the wealth. Carlson's ego requires him to  have a soapbox. Like O'Reilly, and Dobbs before him, feeding the ego will be his ruin.
