The simple fact is that no one (NO ONE!) pays almost 800 million dollars to settle a case unless they know that they are guilty as hell.

Given that Trump supporters in the USA and on this Forum use FOX "News" as their primary information source...

Are you guys finally going to wake up to all the lies Trump/FOX "News" spouts? Or, is it still a "Leftist Globalist Media" causing all the problems?

Just askin'

Wow.

I thought for sure there would be some comments by the MAGA/Trump fans of the Forum; I would say, without any malice, that you guys usually aren't the 'silent' type.

Further to my post above, I would say that when a company, such as FOX "News", pays out 787,500,000.00 USD (approximately 27,172 BILLION Baht; this is a Thai-centric site) to settle a defamation case, I think it is a fair statement to call them proven liars. Moreover, in my life experience, I have never known a liar who only lies about one thing, and thus I think it is fair to say that FOX "News" has lied about a great deal.

Getting lied to sucks. Sadly, I have been lied to on more than one occasion, and each time when it has occurred I felt terribly embarrassed and foolish.

However, it isn't the getting lied to that is important, it is what you do about it. You can undergo a process of re-evaluation of your beliefs and opinions to see if they still hold (some do and some don't, in my experience) or you can undergo a process of self-delusion and continue believing the lies.

The path chosen is a true measure of a man.

The pre-trial discovery was damning, and it became clear how everyone from the major anchors to Murdoch himself knew that Trump was lying about a stolen election. I might have misjudged the mood, but personally, I think Murdoch's big worry was that had it gone to trial, Fox would have been portrayed as having such contempt for their audience and it's intellect, that they knowingly wer prepared to lie to them on the basis of, "That is what these morons want to hear"

Fox are in effect, a one trick pony. The trouble was the pony's name was Trump. When they saw the possibility that other networks were losing a  share of the Trump Market to others, they went on an out campaign to tell segment what they wanted to hear, even though they knew it was untrue.

And the US Presidential comedy show rolls on and on. 2016, Democrats "we was robbed, Trump cheated, reds under the bed, not my President". 2020, Republicans "we was robbed, Biden cheated, voting machines rigged, not my President".

Just get in plenty of popcorn for 2024.

This settlement means big boss Rupert Murdoch and top dogs like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity won’t be stepping foot in the witness box.

Damn just when it was getting interesting. 😂

There is no comparison possible between the 2. Leaves little doubt as to what side you were on.

Neither side - taking a view from the outside, both camps have descended into farce.

Oh. You would be more credible if you hadn't started with a farcical example of that. As if being appalled by the state of things can ever be compared with dishonestly inciting a coup.

Many of us Americans moved away from the US to get away from the current extreme political division.  The American media is making big money keeping the spin going on either side making the division even more extreme.  Maybe if all those “spin congomerates” keep getting sued the world might have a chance for peace & quiet but I’m not holding my breath waiting 😂. For moderates it is exhausting watching or hearing others drinking whatever cool aid they watch on TV and with the good ole internet one cannot get away from the crap no matter where in the world one lives.  Whenever I go back home to visit family or friends there are some that are no longer pleasant to be around as they now seem to be extreme liberal or extreme right wing when years ago I never knew they had political opinions or if they did they kept it to themselves and were not spouting off ranting.

I think the comparison is the refusal by so many on both sides to have respect for the US electoral process.

But maybe the issue is that one, or even both sides are manipulating the media in order to cause conflict with each other of us?

Respectfully Mr M, I think that you are looking at this wrong.

First, I shared your desire to see Rupert Murdoch being made to cry, being tarred and feathered and (finally) being tossed on to the trash heap of History, but that wasn't ever realistic.

Let me address your points individually.

"Nothing was achieved yesterday". Respectfully, FOX "News" lost 800 MILLION DOLLARS and was given a public kick in the goonies. That ain't 'Nothing'.

"The Fox Fruit Loops will still believe the lies". Yes, many/most will still believe, but not all. It is important to remember that not all FOX "News" viewers are Bat-Shit crazy and some think that the Bat-Shit crazies on the Left are more of a threat than the Bat-Shit crazies on the Right. Are they wrong? Tough question. Further, whenever I hear a MAGA/Trump type lie in the future, I am going to say something like "Did you hear that on the "News" station that paid 800MILLION DOLLARS for lying?" or words to that effect, and there is no comeback to that. Finally, as much as I would have loved to see FOX "News" simply taken off the air, that wasn't realistic. Fox "News" slowly built up its audience and lies, and they will be dismantled slowly, piece-by-piece, as well. No, it isn't really satisfying, but that is how it works.

"Dominion made money and the Public lost". Respectfully, Dominion sued for defamation in order to recap financial loses and restore their reputation; it wasn't ever their job to destroy FOX "News". And did the Public "lose"? I don't think so; 800 MILLION DOLLARS ain't a loss and the FOX "News" reputation took a giant hit among the non-crazies.

"Dominion didn't even care to make FOX have to state they lied on air". Again, Dominion's actions here were to recoup financial loses caused by FOX "News's" lies, and they did so; it wasn't their job to force a public confession. And, again, as far as I am concerned, the 800 MILLION DOLLARS was a public confession.

"It was a money grab by them and nothing else..." Yup, it was; that is why they sued. It wasn't their job to destroy FOX "News".

To sum up, it wasn't Dominion's job to destroy FOX "News"; their job was to recoup loses due to defamation.

That said, Dominion gave FOX "News" a VERY public swift kick to the goonies, drained 800 MILLION DOLLARS out of their bank accounts, made future lawsuits against them easier and, if we are lucky, set the stage for FOX Corps shareholders to sue Murdoch for Negligence.

I call it a good day.

I respect your views

The settled is 3x Dominions value

They didn't lose any money

But one part I agree with you is that you can point out Fox's settlement

But I still believe most Fox News won't care one bit about that and will just bring up CNN/MSNBC

What a refreshing comment coming from an American, so rare for the exact reasons you are describing. But do not worry, what you are describing is not only happening in your country, it is happening in many others too including in my own country (France).

Hear, hear. It cant happen soon enough. We see innocent fools quoting these sources as unimpeachable bastions of truth and are expected to fall in line. WRONG.

Yep. The die was cast the day Gingrich entered politics.

Sadly this is probably true.  I have seen friends, former colleagues, and family who, I thought were fairly reasonable peeps years ago, are full on either side of any issue at hand and neither are willing to examine any facts that question their biases. In the big picture I realized it isn’t worth my time as we all have opinions and I don’t need to try and change anyone else’s.

Yes, agreed. There's an old saying about pork and education that I used to use, but now I genuinely feel sorry for these people, as they aren't aware of how used and abused they really are.

This may not be over with. This company is now free to pursue Trump and his henchmen for starting the lie in the first place.

Now how will Fox defend Trump then.

Most of my family are conservative right wing voters

And it may be because they know I am more liberal(although I agree with many conservative policies)

But they will often bring up "culture war" subjects(ie, whatever is on Fox News that day/week)

I will often remind them that we are at a wedding/birthday, etc..........

But if they are real annoying I will politely say to them "If you really want to talk about this, I will, but I don't think you will like what I have to say"

That usually does the trick

My sister and my BIL are two of my favorite people

They watch Fox News all day and if I spend a weekend with them, they will bring up all the Fox News talking points

Trans, CRT, whatever

I can actually have civil debates with them, my BIL was the #1 cop in Massachusets (and I can criticize police and he often agrees)

And I often feel they bring this stuff up because they know I am well researched on it and can speak on it

But I don't want to spend a whole weekend talking about this stuff

So often I will brush things off or just give an uninterested answer
