this is really bad, how people kill each other for petty issues, now this guy because of anger is going to be there in life for jail.

This seems to be premeditated or planned murder. This guy brought a knife in the motive to kill.

Some people are just stupid beyond belief.  I guess he felt his wife lost face with this farang business owner so he kills him and will now be in jail for a very long time whilst he will be losing face as his wife will moving on to another man (men) and he'll hear about it whilst stuck in jail.

Not to blame the victim, but no doubt the amount of money involved was something no one in Australia would murder over - but in Thailand even small amounts can make people do crazy things. Could easily be that an extra few thousand baht would've resolved the situation. Sometimes (often) with Thais it's better to just pay up and avoid potentially dangerous situations.

Having said all that- the husband went there with a knife he was willing to use - likely he already assumed the owner will not pay up and fight.

He can't think that way if he is running a business in Thailand, and by the article, it seems was a decent sized hotel

He has all kinds of employees, he can't just say, "oh, it's only this much baht"

Then the next employee is expecting the same

Tragic consequences. We are not in a position to know the full details and circumstances. without details information, we are only speculating.  The tone of this article is questionable.  "Integration" as opposed to "investigation" It is difficult to say it was premeditated.

Guy goes to the resort carrying the knife, and it's difficult to say that was premeditated?! 😐🙄

Possibly amphetamine psychosis, long term use promotes paranioa and delusional behaviour. Long term use would also explain why so many Thais fall asleep while driving and run away after accidents. Thais love the speed/yabba pills more than sugar

I knew Peter well from his regular visits back to Phuket, he spoke Thai and could be quite firm in his dealings with thai staff especially over money , the man who stabbed him also worked at the resort, he was a chef in the kitchen - so when the dispute escalated he went to the kitchen and returned with a knife - two families lives destroyed over something that could have been settled with a reasonable discussion - incredibly sad

What a gorgeous property he had, what a shame

I find it a bit odd that none of the staff seemed to witness the attack

Only customers

Convenient ......

There was a strong argument so the staff that weren’t eating would have made themselves scarce and it was also lunchtime so they find a quite corner to eat

Yes, indeed, among the working classes yaba use is a real scourge and has to be suspected as a likely cause or contributing factor in this tragic murder.

Very interesting details. I suspected the suspect had more to do with this story than just being the wife of a former employee.

I assume you've never run a business in Thailand. What you're saying makes sense in general terms, but I'm sure the amount of severance pay an employee is entitled to would have been made known in writing at the time of being hired. Some random person (or a dismissed employee) can't just come along later and demand something not stated in the contract.

It does happen, though rarely, that someone is killed in the west over a petty sum of money like this.

Keep in mind that the cook was 24 years old, an age at which  too many Thai males still carry on as teenagers. looks like he had a temper tantrum.

Severance is clearly defined in Thai labour law  and applicable regulations, and it is relatively generous. I believe it is 1 month pay for someone  only employed  up to 4 months, and a worker of 1-3 years time, will receive 3 months severance.

Interesting, and makes sense. Sounds like this was avoidable which is sad. RIP.

having lived here many years, life is cheap and they do take revenge, would had been more wiser to pay the cold bloodied murderer, who should face the death penalty, condolences to his loved ones

The vast majority of humans on the planet do not resort to murder to settle disputs. There are remedies less severe than murder. Not only will his wife not get her sevrence pay, but will now lose her husband.

Anger management issues are mental issues, and cannot be justified by trying to make sense of it.
