What I find interesting about this case is the charges will be tried under Chinese law. Given that the crime was committed in Thailand and Thailand and China have an extradition treaty, why aren’t the suspects extradited back to Thailand to face charges?

Well done. Better prosecute them in China and give them the maximum punishment...death. Don't bring them to Thailand. They will somehow end-up in jail and will be eventually released alive.

This is strange doing a crime in Thailand and prosecuted in China and not extradited.  Most likely worse for the three suspects and a slam dunk for Chinese prosecutors. I’m guessing all three will be meeting the victim again in the near future after receiving the death penalty?

Makes sense in that all were Chinese and legal proceedings will have to be conducted largely in Chinese with Chinese lawyers and family members.  Easier to send the Thai cops to provide the evidence.

True and will save the Thai government money not having a trial and then housing them at the Hilton after conviction.

The treaty allows for discretional refusal, Art. 4, when the requested party (China, in this case) is in the process of proceeding against the person(s). Thailand shall hurry up....
