800,000 is a huge fine. They better reverse the penalty and register these workers bringing them into the ok light. I’m sure South Korea needs workers and this will not help them to get them.

Some day it would be great if people were free to live and work in whatever country they choose.   I understand countries wanting to get rid of people who are trying to live off welfare or other handouts, but keeping people from doing honest work hurts not just the workers, but all the people who would have benefited from their work.

"Little Ghosts" implies they are sex workers, not actual labor. While I have nothing against the world's oldest profession - apparently the Korean government does, and they knew the risk they're taking by overstaying their visas and working illegally. I do agree 800k baht is way too much if not impossible to pay for them.

Gotta say though - it's pretty funny that Korean authorities had the idea to nab them at a Thai singer's concert, good job.

My wife's Uncle worked in South Korea for decades, and I assume legally because he would fly back and forth every 5 years or so

 

He wasn't an advanced worker but he seems to have had a good career, retiring in his mid 50's back to Thailand

I'm not too sure about that.  When I lived in Korea there were designated red light districts, even to the point of having women in windows.  Walk around, choose your pleasure.

"Little Ghosts" is a term for any illegal Thai worker.  My understanding is a majority of them work in agriculture and factories, not flesh peddling.  I never saw anything but Korean women in the windows.

I do think it's quite funny that they got caught at a Thai music concert.  I'd say it was a plot by Korean immigration if I thought they could think out of the box, which I don't.

Pretty stupid on the part of the Little Ghosts to go, though.

It is time that the South Korean authorities should consider organizing more such concerts. Just a simple bait would give them lots of rats. No need to go for hunting. Just wait for the rats to come into their trap. They can add in flavors by giving free beverages. A easy catch to clean the illegal immigrants.

Do not really think Little ghosts is what you are pointing at. I think it is a generalized term used for any type of worker who floats around working illegally, but perhpas for women it could be more thought as that, but don't hink the term is shaped around sex workers.

Tit for Tat. Notice the countries who crack down on illegal Thai workers are not the same who proliferate the illegal job market in Thailand. South Korea, Japan, Great Britain, Germany, France all need workers BUT have a legal system to address these needs. The Thai government, hypocrites that they are, do not really discourage Thais from illegally working in Japan or Korea, as their policy of welcoming back those caught with no legal repercussions. But again the term ILLEGAL has different meanings in the Land of Smiles.

I live in Canada but from the US, I don't think the US would care or do anything if I broke any Canadian Immigration laws
