Officials insist that the radioactive dust has not dispersed into the environment and is in a confined space.

Of course not, the canvas cover on that truck, which drove it to Rayong, was probably not working like usual. It is not to expect, that it lost lots of dust on the way. Right?

Question: What is the need of a non nuke power plant for some radioactive material?

Anyone?

The Nong Ki subdistrict in the Kabin Buri district of Prachin Buri is about 120 km east of Bangkok and Chonburi.

If the caesium-27 escapes into the atmosphere it is likely to cause rates of leukaemia and thyroid cancer to go up in the affected area.

It has already been smelted and vaporized. Now all they have to do is wait for any complications to people in that region and ban all tourism related activities in that area. Just isolate and barricade that area with maximum security for at least 6 months to 1 year to see any acute medical conditions in people living there

The half life of Cesium 37 is 30 years?

30 years. Yes. Beta/gamma emitter. Easy to find.

It was an acute problem. Now it’s a chronic problem. No health effects will noticed short term. If done properly and enough skilled bodies are thrown at it, it will be cleaned up in 2 or 3 months. I’ve done many more difficult radioactive cleanups in my career. I watch and monitor the workers.
