Recommended Posts

Tour van drivers are currently suffering under the weight of vehicle payments against the lightness of tourists to drive around. In northeastern Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima, 41 year old tour van driver Punnawit Jaenlue, says he used to do 20 trips a month, raking in about 50,000 baht. However, due to Covid restriction pertaining to interprovincial travel, he says making even the monthly payments on his vehicle is a struggle. Punnawit tells Thai media he is not singular in his financial struggles. Other tour drivers are also in dire straits. 1 idea is to defer their monthly payments. Punnawit adds that […]

And Thai's never put money away for a rainy day.

Wife is counselling some of her relo's with sound advice, plant veggies to eat and or sell, give up smoking, gambling and alcohol ... usually stops then calling again for a handout.

One Bangkok cousin I do feel sorry for, nice guy always helps when he can.  Borrowed to buy a new taxi 2 years ago, just before covid, now he's barely making enough to fill the gas tank.  300 baht is a BIG day but doesn't pay off his loans.

It is a dreadful situation for people trying to run a business or employed in a business. In other words, anyone of working age.

It’s difficult reading these stories now. It’s been going on since March 2020, thats 16 months of the same issues. No end in sight until the vaccine rolls out and we cut the rate of transmission.

Up here 80% of the fields are sugar cane, for sale and profit, and 20% rice to eat for personal consumption.

This year, there are maybe 50% more rice fields, so it's 70:30 .

The minibus drivers may not be that lucky, though, so I think the driver's got a fair point - easy for the government to suspend re-payments for a few months, and the lenders can afford it more than most.

Government mismanagement of the pandemic response is causing billions in damage to the Thai economy. Affected businesses should form an alliance and send a bill for the damage to Dear Leader and his cabinet cronies.

Many a true word spoken in jest.

Article 157 of the Penal Code addresses malfeasance in public office, for failing to take action to prevent losses.

Yingluck was charged under it and originally ordered to pay 35 billion baht in compensation for the rice subsidy scheme, although the Central Administrative Court found this year that she wasn't responsible.

Two former ministers and three former officials were ordered to pay 14.7 billion baht.

Those are billions, with a 'b'.

The losses from the Covid fiasco would be rather higher.
