", it remains unclear whether volunteers will be expected to cover any expenses themselves, such as transportation and purchasing a uniform."

Is that unclear? Why should that be different to the "immigration volunteers"?

Also, are these volunteers still doing it outside the law, without a Non-volunteer and no work permit?

Good that the "criminal record check" is BEFORE they doing a job without wp, huu?

You too will be able to cover your expenses with the odd extortion here and there, plus taking a bribe or two. Plus there is a chance to have a Ferrari in your garage once your tour of duty is up …. Well maybe not the Ferrari.

There's a certain kind of foreigner who will get a real power trip from stuff like this.

Farang Walter Mitty losers, playing at being cops, it's truly pathetic.   I can't even be bothered to exchange a word with these dim wits.

Remember to read the fine print before signing on;

in the course of a shift you will be translating for a person exhibiting one or more of the following characteristics:

Drug impairment

Alcohol impairment

Propensity towards violence

Disregard or ignorance of local customs and culture

Disregard or ignorance of local laws

Denial of exhibiting any of the aforementioned behaviours.

Despite the negativity, keep in mind that the police volunteers are often the people calling someone's family to advise of injury or other problem. They are the ones who are most likely to sit with the sexual abuse victim since they can speak the language. Yes some are jerks, and some can be criminal types, but then there were some very kind and decent people. I recall Simon from my days in Patong, and a couple of the Australian ladies, one of whom walked her beat in heels.
