The investigation against 116 allegedly corrupt immigration police officers is moving apace. It involves the issuing of visas to foreigners.

A huge amount of evidence of their taking of bribes and back handers is being sifted through.

And NINE immigration offices right across the north east and the north are in the crosshairs.

Investigating coordinator Pol Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan was at the police association with a mountain of paperwork.

There are 100,000 sheets detailing the alleged wrongdoing of police who face charges of both dereliction of duty as well as receiving cash directly.  400 witnesses have so far been interviewed.

There are 40 cardboard boxes for the Weluwan police in Khon Kaen to sift through, where the investigation goes next before the mountain of mischief will be handed to the office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Thailand takes corruption cases very seriously (sic) and on conviction officers could face years behind bars.  At least three have the word general in their titles.

Now the immigration offices where the alleged bribes were taken have been named for the first time.

They are:

Chiang Mai

Nakhon Ratchasima

Khon Kaen

Sakhon Nakorn

Chaiyaphum

Kalasin

Phrae

Yasothon and Roi-Et.

Big Joke was a former head of immigration who was sacked in 2019 before his rehabilitation to assistant commander of the RTP last year.

Translation per ASEAN NOW

If it were 500,000,000,000 sheets of paper and 2,000,000,000 witnesses interviewed with 200,000,000 boxes of forms to sift through, it wouldn't matter diddley-squat.

If the people doing the investigating aren't cut off entirely from the people being investigated AND are honest, above-board public servants (and they aren't), then little will happen and the world's largest carpet of corruption will simply reach new heights with all the extra crap swept underneath it.

100,000 sheets of paper, 400 witnesses and 30 boxes of evidence SOUNDS impressive, but unless most/all of the 116 police officers get fired AND go to jail, it is a meaningless PR stunt.

Post photos of the police in jail and I will be impressed.

Until then... it doesn't even qualify as bad community Kabuki theater.

Always thought "Joke" was shovelling diarrhoea up hill, I am now rooting for him big time.

Maybe just maybe, if someone doesn't kill him first, there is some hope for the Thai legal system,

 via this remarkable gentleman.
