Not precisely true now is it.  To have a legitimate business here, you must have majority Thai partners.  On condos, foreigners are not allowed by law to own the majority of any development.  What the Thais appear to be doing, is using Chinese/Indians  money for their own ends.  Yes, you can illegally get around these rules, but as many eventually  find out, that is not sustainable long term.

You could be forgiven in thinking Thailand was foreign investor friendly with this misleading report. Utter nonsense of course. Whatever business is being bought up by foreigners, more than half is Thai owners and if it’s not, then these people will be paying on a sliding scale depending on how successful the business is.

It's only in the West, and notably in the UK,  that sell, their treasurers, in business/property/land terms  to the Chinese, Russians and Indians without restriction and then call it 'inward investment'.  The West are as dumb as a shed load of bricks when it comes to assisting criminals and oligarchs to own anything that they wish. The British Steel industry is in its final death throes under Indian ownership, so that India can flood the market with a cheaper set of products, while the UK pays over the odds to buy the stuff back internationally . The West is so dim that its painful to watch.  The Thais are not so stupid.

I agree that the West dim when it comes to this kind of thing. We stupidly thought if we allowed them to invest and be part of a democracy, they would follow. Fact is, they want none of it and I think that Russias invasion of Ukraine may be the wake up call it needs. I’m not holding my breath mind you. Most western governments are spending more time arguing over the definition of a woman or gender identity laws to think about what is really taking place. The only problem with the Thai model is that it’s good business for the top 20%. The rest are just fodder.

It was ever thus.  The trick is to be in that 20%

Don't count the Russians out again. So, may I ask the readers who is the best race to have take over there?

The Thai's.

The various Thai mafia groups will respond, as eventually they always do, as will ultra Nationalist Thai HiSo's who are not involved in the rape of the country by the Chinese, Indians and Russians. With their close ties to the US, I wouldn't put it past the Military to intervene at some point, discreetly of course.   It's not over yet, not by a long way.

India and China especially have been playing the WTO free trade rules for decades now, as often as not standing on their "developing nation" status to protect their own industries from competition while using their low cost base and subsidies to undercut Western industries. Western companies are becoming wary of China now, both in terms of blatant IP theft and over-reliance on a single supply chain - but they may have woken up too late.

Spot on comments. Basically, the West and other developed countries have been played as mugs. The U.K. still gives around £55m in foreign aid to China. Utterly incredible, but that just shows how stupid we are.
