You're probably totally right- he lost his source of income so now looking for more. Creepy how this happens so much in Thai society and the custom of "compensating" for someone's loss monetarily.

Money talks in all societies. It screams out loud in Thai society. If my sister had been killed, I wouldn’t want money no matter how poor. I would want the perpetrator to face justice.
