Bangkok’s recent spate of police “embarrassments” (cops caught committing crimes) has led to a spate of “transfer to an inactive post” (paid vacation) notices. If most of us commit a crime, we can expect the cops to show up and – very basically – throw us in jail. But rich people rarely go to jail, …

The story “Transfer to an inactive post’ – punishment or paradise? as seen on Thaiger News.

It is a financial punishment. The losses are numerous - a loss of opportunities for self enrichment, having to pay to influence investigations, buying off witnesses & damage control etc etc plus the long term damage to their reputation as a successful “enabler” that itself has  longer term financial impacts on their “earning” power.

I said in another thread on this extortion case that I don't have any faith, at all, in these police being disciplined.

Honor and honesty are two traits that are sorely lacking among the ranks of the Boys in Brown and their supervisors who just put them on a desk until the news quietens down and then it's back to situation normal.

Biggest question not asked by journalists, is not to the Thai Police, but to the enforcers of those that pay tax in Thailand. Guaranteed the Thai Police don’t pay tax on all the monies they extort from the many Thais and tourists every year. Thai Police must be giving someone a cut of their takings.

You raise a good point regarding the Thais. Most stories we see and hear are about them extorting foreigners and tourists. This pales to insignificance compared to what they do to their own people and what they don’t do for their own people. It’s a national embarrassment on every level, but the Thai government don’t feel this shame.

I wouldnt pin this topic down to Thailand , but obviousely the scenario is rampant in Thailand

and sometimes the make up is to silly , ec...little coppers with a multimillion asset portfolios ...driving around in Lamborghinis......and fluffing in whirlpools of their villas .....probably they saw that in movies.......

so that cases come up to the public .

in the end the string goes down further to the next levels ...which in this case are the politic levels....in Thailand and everywhere else

and because the coppers are the so called strong arm of this next level it is useful to keep them calm and fluffy , because if they wouldn t be so , than it would be easy to get rid of some of the baking old fat rusty stuff in the next level , which obviousely also to a big extend works into their own pockets ....just at a lower risk
