I’m far too cynical to believe this story in the way it’s described. I also find it utterly incredible that a police officer wouldn’t  get disciplined for posting his interrogation of the suspect. I guess it’s a case of guilty until proven more guilty. Thailand is so so far behind the modern world in so so many ways, not all bad I may add, but this kind of grandstanding is childish. Look at me, I’m doing my job!

“Good impression on foreign tourist”  ??? Really !   This is a “multiple” offender.  Islamic law has great punishment for repeat offenders, which involves missing certain body parts.
