I guess for some, it allows them to be more like home and no possibility of the landlord giving them notice. For others it’s a way of making sure their Thai partner has security if they die before them. There are also those who see the next 20 years of their life in Thailand and buying a house works out cheaper than renting. For others, it can lead to the loss of a significant amount of capital if things go wrong. I personally would never own a house in Thailand. I like to move around too much and when I’m told old and frail to do so, Thailand won’t be the place I rest my head. -

Do the maths Leah - Europeans spend MORE PER DAY during their average 13 day stays than Americans due over their 15 days, and no surprise Americans stay longer - they've travelled much further and therefore paid more for flights so stay longer for better value for money. Your headline statement isn't entirely wrong, but it gives a deceptive picture. Europeans spend the most each day of their stay, especially in the local economy rather than just within the hotels. -

A restaurant manager confessed to using public spaces at Na Jomtien Beach in Pattaya without permission to provide seating for their customers. News Forum - Thai police admit extorting money from Taiwanese actress
I totally agree. I guess those who turn a blind eye or even support the acts of corruption are inherently greedy people themselves. What a fantastic world it would be if people were united against corruption.
