After facing international backlash for reintroducing the two-dose Covid-19 vaccine entry requirement at the last minute, Thailand will allow unvaccinated tourists to fly into the country so long as they have either proof of recovery from Covid-19 in the past six months OR a doctor’s letter explaining why they are not vaccinated. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) issued an updated Notice to Airmen (NOTEM) to all airlines… “The Ministry of Public Health has issued the measure for international passengers as follows… “1. Passengers 18 years old or older must provide proof of full vaccination or proof of Covid-19 […]

I’m confused by the article. The published text seems to show the original. Where does it talk of a people who have not been vaccinated other than those needing a letter from a doctor or proof of recovery? That was the original NOTAM. The rumour yesterday was that this had been changed to allow unvaccinated people to arrive but they must take a Covid test on arrival. This isn’t a change and hence the article is pointless.

This is the correct announcement in the BKK post this morning. Come on Thaiger. Keep up

This is so laughable. They obviously know the impact was going to be massive. Despite a number of people posting on here that it was nothing and it wasn’t a problem. A handful of people, most are vaccinated, blah blah blah. Fact is the reactions has rightly been deafening and the totally moronic Thai Junta have done an embarrassing U-turn. They do know this makes them lose face internationally don’t they? 😂😂😂

There is already another u-turn online, that there is no entry requirement, again. "Just" people who will leave to a country that needs a pre Covid test will have to have covid insurance, again. THAT is targeting the target China, methinks

Can you imagine being an airline operator trying to fly in to Thailand at the moment with all this going on. What a shambles. The whole world is now getting a taste of what life is like trying to do anything business like in the shambolic illogical mess that is Thailand.

Well at Suvarnabhumi airport now I can confirm lots of sneezing coughing people and lots of Chinese here now. Looked at the flight arrival and departure sign and there are lots of flights coming from different parts of China on the schedule. Even has Hong Kong flights.

Vaccinated or unvaccinated all I have to say is the flood gates look wide open and the Chinese have started to land here now. Very very noticeable and disappointing. Take care everyone, it doesn’t look pretty.

From the 'neutral' BBC report.

Mr Kan did not specify a timeline for when all the infections happened - but as China's previous zero-Covid policy kept cases to a minimum, it's likely the vast majority of Henan's infections occurred in the past few weeks.

He said visits to fever clinics in Henan province peaked on 19 December "after which it showed a continuous downward trend".

Three weeks ago. Everyone can stop being afraid now. Have a pleasant evening. 😉

I will take the BBC's neutrality over that of the Chinese state controlled media any day.

Your choice of which you are entitled, nay, due!

So you will be admitting that Covid peaked three weeks ago in mainland China? After all, your BBC did say so.

Have a wonderful evening. 😀

Was that while they were still aiming for a zero covid policy?

Ok so the infections for that specific wave peaked on December 19. Covid infections occur in waves. First the most susceptible, then the health care workers, then others. If Covid infections follow other countries' pattern, then we will see another wave in a few weeks and then another etc.

No biggie. The instructions to verify are automated. At checkin, a pax traveling to USA or Canada or Japan etc. will have to present negative PCR or antigen test. Wouldn't have  added much to current checkin process now. Most pax do  a pre checkin and submit additional documents required. Then they just show documents at counter if need be, Very easy. It is only Thailand that complicates what could have been an easy screening process.

I was more concerned for ticketing staff and dealing with requests about current requirements. As you say it was Thailand that complicated a situation that could have been so simple. It’s seems like that’s  a national pastime time.

From the article:

“3. Holder of official and diplomat passports, United Nations Laissez-passer are exempted from health insurance requirements.

“4. Holders of Thai passports and transit/transfer passengers are exempted from vaccination check and health insurance requirements.

Cause they don’t pose a risk? Ridiculous. Negates the credibility, scope and rationale of all of the other measures.

Public sentiment is the target, not public health, IMO.

We don't need covid tests to enter Canada or the US

Travelling to Bangkok from Manchester tomorrow - just done the online check in, and the advice from the airline is to check in FOUR hours before the flight, presumably to allow for the checking of whatever extra documents will be needed. Fortunately I am travelling at the pointy end so I can stick with checking in two hours before the flight as originally planned.
