As China prepares to open the floodgates on Sunday, Thai government officials are discussing measures to prevent Covid-19 outbreaks from the upcoming influx of Chinese tourists, given the prevalence of the virus in the PRC at present. The virus spread rapidly in China after Beijing dropped three-year-long stringent Covid-19 measures last month. Then, Beijing dropped mandatory quarantine on arrival and announced the reopening of the borders on January 8, spurring budding Chinese travellers to book trips abroad. Measures to protect Thailand from imported Covid-19 cases from China will be finalised in a meeting tomorrow between officials from the Ministry of […]

Every time I hear or read of Anutin's praise for Thailand's covid measures, I get a mental image of a water buffalo dropping a load from its rear end.

The concern here is that they seem hell bent on not discriminating against people from China. As such, there’s a chance here that ALL visitors will get caught up in the face saving fiasco.
They were even talking about reintroducing Covid health insurance required for all visitors. This could turn the tourist industry upside down.

They already said that they would do random Covid checks on arrival. WTF does that mean? What happens if you test positive on one of those random checks? If I was planning on a trip in the coming weeks, I would put it on hold or go elsewhere. Somewhere that has a more competent government and not in the pocket of the CCP.

We are supposed to go on Feb 17th but I am not thrilled about it right now

Problem is that they will be on flights going many places and not just here, so essentially the CCP Covid flu is back out and running its ugly course again.

Wait and see then flip the coin. By then it should have reared its ugly little CCP bat head again.

Well it’s very ambiguous at the moment. Hopefully following the meeting scheduled for tomorrow things will become clearer. Personally I’m not worried about the health insurance as I always travel with insurance. My bigger concern is the loose comment about “random testing” and no clarification on what happens if you test positive. That could be very expensive and destroy a persons holiday. Fingers crossed it’s clearer tomorrow. I’m holding off booking my flights until I know.

Yes the insurance is not a concern and if I had to purchase the other insurance I did before for I think around $60cad it wouldn't be a concern

But the random testing and just possible exposure to Covid from Chinese....

Regardless if not as harmful, I don't feel like getting Covid while traveling, especially Thailand

I do need to get there to sit down with my son about what he wants to do(PR in Canada, Masters in Thailand, etc)

If I don't go on Feb 17th, next time I can go is around Songkran, don't absolutely love being in Thailand around that time

You seem to forget that Thailand is an Asian country with Asian mentality, especially when it comes to 'face'. They cannot afford to upset the big bully on the block, so they - the fearless leaders like Anutin - will roll over and expose their bellies. If communist China says let our people in unopposed and to hell with the health consequences, they will do so.

I guess I am not forgetting since I am rethinking the trip 5555

My trips aren't really holiday trips, per se, anymore

More like having to see family

So they can't be put off entirely
