Yes, I think that’s how Russian roulette often ends. It involves a gun and a bullet you see. You need to be careful around guns and bullets. I heard they can be dangerous at times!

Reading through the story, there are the inevitable hints of "suspicious circumstances". But you do have to wonder just how easy it would be to find three friends dumb enough to play this game.

Then again, we are talking about kids. Tragic regardless of the circumstances.

As a norm only 30% of the real story is out. The rest 70% is always hidden. I am sure Thai Police can easily solve the case when they can solve a lost phone case with mere its GPS signal. Now they have 2 GPS at their disposal. Just activate the 2 GPS and with some "real engagement" of both the GPS separately, the real story can be easily unfold.

All GPS can do is show the location of a phone. The real test that is likely to get to the bottom of any questions in this case, is GSR: Gun Shot Residue. It's a simple test that shows if you've been in close contact with a gun discharge. Presuming that it was in a confined space, all three are likely to have GSR, but the shooter will have he most seriously contaminated hands.

Russian roulette is a game (at least, something "played" according to the article), but it's unimaginable that any 16-year old wouldn't be aware of the permanent rien ne va plus effect.

Homicide can't be excluded yet, but I place my bets on a half-hearted premeditated suicide by unhappy bunnies. With that outset things like carefulness/awareness of danger are only relevant in the opposite sense of what is usual. Alcohol or other drugs might be involved, but their role would be no more than to numb the innate sense for self-preservation.

One died but 2 didn't (and somebody provided a gun). Some help - beyond the police investigation - seems appropriate.

I doubt the police will be spending much time investigating this. If it sort of looks like a mistake then that’s what it is. Won’t be any sophisticated forensic being involved. No money in murder unless the parents are wealthy.

I wonder if it might be pure idiocy, and just wanting the thrill without realizing that 1 in 6 is actually going to happen a whole lot.

Some are just really bright like that.

One of the dead boy’s relatives pointed out that the gun should have fallen to his left because the victim was a left-handed person. However, the gun was on his right side.

Unless he just discovered was a right-handed gun user.

Well, RIP, little man.  Whether this means he Won or Lost the game, is a matter of perspective.

Brother of an ex-girl friend (many years ago now) was an active gang member, about 20 or 21 years old, sat in a Saturday night circle jerk with his hommies, weed, beer, and a revolver.   When he "Won", however, that was the end of the tournament.  None of the other contestants called for a second round.  Pun intended.  Best, 2 out of 3, lads?  No thanks.

Varying origin stories for this "game" going back 100s of years.  When revolver firearms came on the scene, it was (apparently) played with 5 rounds in the chamber, only 1 empty.   Later revised to the modern version to make it more sporting and last a bit longer - 1 live round, 5 empty chambers.
