What I’d like to see is the police stationed at intersections in their police boxes, be given the authority to control traffic when an ambulance in an emergency situation is stuck in traffic at a red light. Given that lights remain red for what seems likes an interminable amount time in Thailand, this measure could mean the difference between life and death.

No it doesn’t. Yesterday was 34 deaths. Normally it’s around 60-65. Why does the media keep saying this nonsense ?

Oh my god, please NO! Most mornings and evenings when the cops man the traffic lights it causes chaos. We don’t need that all day and night. 
 

Emergency vehicles can go through a red light in an emergency. It just needs Thai drivers to give way and make room for emergency vehicles.

Emergency vehicles can go through a red light in an emergency. It just needs Thai drivers to give way and make room for emergency vehicles. 

They can’t when they’re stuck behind other vehicles, which is precisely the time you want the police mobilised into action.

Well yes. But the point is they shouldn’t be stuck behind other vehicles. Thai drivers need to move out of the way
