The Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, Damronsak Kittiprapas, launched the road safety campaign named Seven-day Dangerous (7 วัน อันตราย) today, December 29. The campaign aims to reduce the number of road accidents during the traditional holiday season when many Thais will travel out of Bangkok to spend time with their families in their home provinces. Congratulations on a good job. Please continue to execute it beyond the 7 days. Make those who violate feel the pinch of it. Hope this will give some awareness lessons to those violators. It would be good if the authorities can also look into the vehicle modifications and overloading of the vehicles, especially the pick-up trucks which carry goods double or triple their standard height.

The division also stated that nearly 10,000 drivers were also arrested and fined for drunk driving, failure to wear a helmet (on motorcycles), and failure to wear a seat belt.

And THAT must have been in one small town only.  Helmet offence must be in the millions for the whole of Thailand.😆

When talking about man or material, Thai people value material most as it gives some returns. And when comes to helmet, many would prefer to keep their helmet clean, safe and as brand new in their motorcycle rather than on their head. Because they know that their head has no value where as helmet does.

Odd that they should think that way. Do they hold the same view when it comes to the value of their children’s heads also? Evidence would seem to suggest they do. I rented a house in a very nice housing estate near Bangkok some years back. I regularly saw parents with high end cars taking kids to school. It was normal to see 5 year olds standing up in the front passenger floor well looking out the front window. It wasn’t until the last few years I ever saw a child safety seat in a car or on sale.
