A 97 year old woman has been convicted of murdering over 10,000 people while she served as a Nazi concentration camp secretary. The woman was convicted for her role in what could be the last trial for World War II crimes. According to Reuters, the district court in the northern town of Itzehoe charged Irmgard Furchner with a two-year suspended sentence for aiding and abetting the murder of 10,505 people and the attempted murder of five people. I suspect this woman will have far greater demons she faces than a suspended sentence.

Was she involved in a small part of what was the industrial scale execution of millions of people simply because of their religion. Yes she was.

If she had quit and refused to do her job any more would it have stopped? Sadly no and she would probably have joined the inmates of the camp.

It is easy for us to look back and be judgmental over individuals with very minor roles but they were just as terrified of the nazi regime as everyone else.

Guilty by association, but what were her choices? Be strung up for refusing to do the job they told her to do? I am sure they can find a lot more soldiers and people who were forced in one way or the otehr. Takes more than a few hundred people to exterminate millions. How about the train/locomotive driver or any soldier who watched over or had any intergration with the victims? This seems like a wtch hunt unless she acted like a little snot and treated prisoners bad with no consiensce. How about soldiers associated to Stalin or Mao or let's go to Putin and his crimes now.
