A reportedly intoxicated Thai man severely injured a Russian motorcyclist in a crash in Pattaya early this morning.  Rescuers arrived at the scene on Soi Jomtien 11 to find the Russian man severely injured and bleeding. The rescuers found the man’s motorcycle nearby. They rushed him to the nearest hospital. The rescuers found the Thai pickup truck driver, 34 year old Chaiyan Moohan, uninjured, although his car had a broken bumper. The title and news are misleading....looks like the Russian man went and rammed on to the parked vehicle. Yes the vehicle is blocking the way. But don't the motorcycle rider have eyes to see what is in the front?

He was moving the vehicle when the motorbike hit him, he wasn’t parked up. Most likely the driver just pulled out. Didn’t look, didn’t indicate and just blocked the lane causing the other guy to crash in to him. 
 

I’ve left out the need to refer to and identify the driver and the victim by nationality, as it’s irrelevant divisive  nonsense that needs to stop.

Just a personal opinion....but I feel less comfortable driving around Jomtien/Pattaya now that the Russians are out.

 

Over 17 years I have learned to handle the idiosyncrasies of Thai driving  - the Russians are different animals. I do not drive slowly on my Forza but when when I have a Thai couple, with a kid, racing past me on their PCX it changes my comfort levels.

Same as the USA – 33% of all crashes with alcohol.

 

In UK In the 1970s it was between 33 and 28 %

But then the USA has a higher death rate in 4-wheeled private vehicles than Thailand.

The death rate over New Year and Song Khran usually remains the same or slightly less than the annual average.

THe collision rates are the same as the UK, it is the death rates that are higher.

Have the road death numbers in Thailand miraculously dropped in two years?

Put another way, road deaths from Jan 1st - June 13th (2020) surpassed 6,000.
