No, its dumb.  To expose such a young child, still developing and used to living at sea level. , to the 18,000 plus altitude, risking cerebral or pulmonary edema, is nothing short of child abuse. Some die at much lower altitudes than that each year.  He is young and has lots of time for this type of activity.
