A Chiang Mai field hospital that closed early last month is reopening today to combat the rising Covid infections. Yesterday, Chiang Mai reported 17 new infections. Local authorities will reopen the hospital, located at the international convention and exhibition centre this afternoon. Beds and other equipment were also put back. Dr Amporn Iamsri, the director of the Chiang Mai field hospital says the location will have 250 beds. Over the last 3 days, there have been over 15,000 reported cases of Covid in Thailand. Another example of the Provinces suffering again because of a decision not thought through and implemented properly. People escaping Bangkok because of camp closures etc are returning home. Many bringing Covid-19 and creating new Clusters. But I suppose, it has been over 2 weeks now, so we are due for another restructure of the colour coding of the infected areas, which often seems more important!

Agreed.

It was either complete incompetence or deliberate 'house clearing' to announce the camp closures in Bangkok before they could be secured, giving those in them plenty of time to leave for the provinces.

Personally I suspect it was deliberate 'house clearing' to avoid having to pay them 50% wages and feed them for a month, even with government help - particulary as hundreds of migrant workers were also dumped either at the borders or at Covid testing centres.

Inexcusable.

Thank you Bangkok. It is the fourth time your irresponsibility has cause CM to have to deal with your infections and is leaving our tourism businesses devastated. It's about time that Lanna was resurrected as an independent state and broke away from the China Siam axis based in Bangkok.

I read a month ago or so, that even if someone tests asymptomatic they are placed in the hospital, is this the case?  Shouldn't beds be utilized for critical care instead?

In a field hospital, which can be anything from a converted conference centre or sports stadium to a staff accommodation block, as at my local hospital.

They used to be quarantined in hospitals, but only when numbers were very low, to ensure they were  isolated when infectious.

The shortage of hospital beds is for the symptomatic, and it's serious - a number have died of Covid at home, just waiting for a hospital bed.
