Recommended Posts

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand is on a mission to rescue a group of Thai women stuck in Nigeria who claim they were offered work as masseuses but forced into prostitution instead. Last week, relatives of the women sought help from Paveena Hongsakul, who is a Thai women’s rights and children’s rights activist, ex-Minister of Social Development and Human Security, and founder of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation. The foundation was informed that 12 Thai women saw job advertisements on Facebook offering work as masseuses in Nigeria, with an attractive salary of 50,000 baht per month. In May, the […]

You have to be another level of stupid to go to Nigeria (or Dubai, etc) to work as a "massuese" and not realize this will involve prostitution. Being kidnapped is one thing, but going there on your own is just stupid, to the point they deserve no sympathy, even if their claims are true - but you gotta wonder if that's even the case here - it actually sounds like they were free to leave anytime. They probably just balked at plane ticket prices and had the brilliant idea of getting Thailand/the foundation to pay the bill for them. (not really surprising, given the mindset that usually accompanies their chosen profession - let someone else pay, always)

And in a lot of Western countries quite a few realise that they have trafficked at about the same time as they find out that "being rescued" is a fast track to a legitimate leave  to stay and a work permit.

Nigerians trick anyone - never.
Heavens above, they'll be accused of creating scams next.

I shall make enquires with my good friend Prince Umbukuwambi. He is from Nigeria and we have been in  correspondence since he informed me he needed to deposit $2 000 000 dollars into my account.

He has been a little quiet of late though.

You actually might be on to something here. The whole massage business is very murky to say the least. And in the article it didn't mention whether the company is Nigerian owned or partnered with some Thai. I live in an ex Soviet Republic here where there are many Thais, and it is them that "import" fellow Thais with false promises and conditions. And everybody seems to know what the "job" is about. Some of the massage "therapists" even refuse female clients because they can not get any "extra's".
