Here's a fact

The BTS is designed after our skytrain system here in Vancouver 

 

And it's funny because before I knew that I always felt they felt like a very similar ride

Some interesting history there for sure @Marc26. Certainly the shared name “Skytrain” is a nod to Vancouver’s network (which came first) as well.

When I first visited Bangkok, there was no BTS. Sukhumvit seemed much, much wider than it appears now. Second time, it was under construction and now, it is what it is. 

Much easier crossing the road now than it used to be

What is peculiar is when I ride Bangkok BTS and Vancouver skytrain, a 30min ride doesn't seem that long

I guess it's the smoothness of the ride

 

Because a 10min ride in Boston/NYC subways feel forever

True that. Never completely packed from my experience either, unlike say Tokyo or Manila.

4/5. Second guessed myself on the last question when I knew I shouldn’t have. Watched the first phase being built back in the day and then up and running in Bangkok. I ride almost all the lines quite often. Just road the pink line from Don Meuang airport to Bang Sue, down to MRT to Chattuchak, back on BTS to Siam crossed on to Silom Line and got off at Chong Nonsi. Interesting rides but too many changes if you don’t have time. Love the trains in Bangkok.

BTS is one of the best ways to get an understanding of Bangkok layout. I have taken the train from one end of the line to the other and picked up alot of the BMA geography. Another thing to do is to ride the   commuter boats from one end of the river to the other. It's  a scenic boat ride for a few hours that is comfortable on a hot day.
