In Thailand’s EV market, China’s auto manufacturers are locked in a bitter struggle against Japanese incumbents. China’s biggest maker of electric and hybrid cars, BYD, is to build an electric vehicle (EV) car plant in Rayong. The Great Wall Motor Co.’s production line in the same town has produced more than 10,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, Hozon New Energy has its Neta on display at a showroom in Bangkok’s Central Rama 2 mall. With all the talk of “fighting it out” and displacing “incumbents”, it’s important to look deeper into the tea leaves to fully appreciate the picture.

Firstly, in the conventional auto market, brand recognition, sales and market reach, Chinese auto makers will never rival Japan’s, let alone exceed them. They are only rivals to the extent that a flea is a rival to the elephant on whose backside it resides.

EVs are a whole different ball game and China is not only streets ahead, but lengthening the gap. Japanese auto makers are destined to be late entrants in the battle and it may just be too late then. Why have they been so slow? Well, that’s another discussion but for now in EVs, China is way, way out in front.

Cleaner? How so.. these cars need electricity that's  generated by coal, oil, gas, nuke, and some by thermal, hydro, wind and sun.  In any case, is this not to slow man made global warming?  Yet we read  this.. 

With reference to the often used '97% of scientists concur', a major peer-reviewed paper by four senior researchers has exposed grave errors. They pointed out that the 97% number had appeared in a new and unknown journal. (Suspicious)? The researchers were led by top climatologist Dr David Legates. Their paper was published in the respected Science and Education journal and it clearly demonstrated that number was not 97.1%, as claimed, but only 0.3%!

Only 41 out of the 11,944 published climate papers examined by Dr Legates team explicitly stated that 'Man caused most of the warming since 1950'.

The Warm Atlantic current that brings Europe mild weather is weakening. Guess what. The fake scientists are now blaming CO2 for slowing the current giving us Global Cooling

Yes, except that EV sales in Thailand are just about 5% of the total market, with conventional car sales running at an annualized 900,000-1 million units this year. So this is the equivalent of dominating the spaghetti market in Thailand, while your competitors dominate the noodles and rice business.

As far as 2040, one thing China observers do is not to project too far into the future. Some of the Chinese car companies are state-owned and the rest survive on state subsidies. Take away the "state" money from these companies and you are left with.....very little.
