Recommended Posts

A young teen Thai girl applied for a job on a social media site promising a minimum of 20,000 baht a month salary. Next thing she knew, the 13 year old girl was forced into prostitution in Malaysia. Yesterday, she was returned to Thailand with the help of the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Division in Thailand and police in Malaysia. Police broke up a human trafficking ring that would import young girls into Malaysia to be forced into prostitution. They arrested five members of the gang and rescued four women. "if convicted, could face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison"... two things wrong with this statement:

Why 'IF CONVICTED'? I know justice is blind, but a kid forced into prostitution, no matter how 'worldly and knowledgeable' should be a slam dunk as soon as they walk into court (or are they bureaucrats and police officers?)

Secondly, 20 years should be a MINIMUM sentence, not maximum. These scum deserve no pity for what they are doing.

Also, why isn't a 13-year-old attending compulsory schooling? At the most she should be in Matthayom 2, which is compulsory. So much for her mother keeping her safe...

You would think it should be hard for her to travel across a border being underage. These crime people need plainly to have a bullet put into their heads.

Did you read the article? She was smuggled across.

Sorry, but how stupid can you be? Surely at some point either the girl or the mother (seems like she knew about it) should've paused at one of the giant red flags:

1. Salary too good to be true.

2. Job in another country.

3. Willing to employ underage (any normal employer would check ID and age).

4. Work in massage in another country is almost always sex work.

5. Being required to travel to a land border (to be smuggled).

I mean come on. I understand she's 13, but surely the mother should've known better. Or was she blinded by the promise of big baht?

P.S. Thai authorities and media should be more proactive in making sure Thais and teenagers especially are aware of such scams and human trafficking risk. There's too many stories like this of Thais being enticed by offers of high salary only to become scam call center or sex slaves. And of course they should trace and crack down on such job offerings - it would be quite easy actually to conduct sting operations and catch the bad guys BEFORE they kidnap more teenagers.

Thaiger...please closely follow-up this case and update the progress until justice is served as per the law. Most of such cases are reported initially but there is no further development and all are gone in thin air. Just use your journalism to ensure that there is no miscarriage in this case......Can you do it Thaiger? Be a thorn in the butt.....
