Russian President Vladimr Putin has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting which will be held in Bangkok next month from November 18-19. The Russian Federation is one of APEC’s 21 members. Putin attended an APEC summit hosted by Thailand 19 years ago in 2003. More than 30 countries have launched economic sanctions on Russia over Putin’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. However, Thailand will welcome Putin with open arms next month. After all, Thailand and Russia celebrate 125 years of diplomatic relations this year. Last week, President of France Emmanuel Macron sent a letter to […]

Of course Putin has accepted, he wants to show the world that he still has friends. Thailand of course have few scruples and would have invited Hitler if they thought there were $$$$$$ in it

Will be a virtual address using Zoom.

No way he is going to leave the safety of the toilet in his Kremlin bunker. He knows he would not be safe. Even if he did he might find someone else is in charge of Russia upon his return.

No he will continue shouting instructions through the keyhole and eating his cold pot noodles.

I read this a few hours ago and still have problem believing. It takes a special kind of arrogance and stupidity to do this. Thailand gets more economic benefit from western countries and north Asia than it gets from Russia, and it chooses to invite a madmen warmonger.Thailand officials see the many missile strikes on civilian targets and reward Putin. There will be a day of reckoning for those who aided and supported Putin. Thailand is playing with fire here. Then again, Thailand indirectly helped the Pol Pot regime during the worst years of the genocide, so this shouldn't be a surprise.

Bravo Vigo

Have to believe this invitation comes from the current PM?

Moral bankruptcy, sadly no merit here, nothing to show that there is any following of the teachings.

UKRAINE WILL PREVAIL, this will hasten Putin’s demise.

And again in this thread, I do not see a single bad word about another invited guest (nor I see one in the title or in the text of this article) who is the prince and PM of an awful authoritarian-theocratic regime that is Saudi Arabia (https://www.journalofdemocracy.org/articles/the-authoritarian-resurgence-saudi-arabias-anxious-autocrats/), country that has been committing atrocious war crimes for the past 7 years in Yemen with effects where now the country is on the edge of famine (https://reliefweb.int/report/yemen/yemen-humanitarian-response-plan-2022-april-2022). I guess if something is not all over the mainstream media, it does not exist for carefully specific outraged people. But Saudi Arabia is an ally of the West, so no politician nor any mainstream media seem to be outraged by it, coward and hypocritical as they are. So then people simply follow blindlessly in their chosen outrage...

Opportunism and typical for Thailand! Most of the world has united in restricting Russian travel to 'punish' Putin for his 'special military operation' but Thailand sees the possibility to attract the tourists who cannot travel elsewhere.

Thailand is very much the land of short term thinking. $$$$$ now is all that matters. Also let us not forget that Russia is pally with China, more $$$$$ thinking?
