Thailand celebrates an auspicious Buddhist holiday today known as ‘Awk Pansa‘ (exit Pansa) to mark the final day of Buddhist Lent. Being one of Thailand’s five major Buddhist holidays, alcohol sales are banned for 24 hours nationwide. Saffron-robed monks and white-robed maechis exit their temples today for the first time since July 14, upon completion of a period of focussed Buddhist study and practice known as the Buddhist Rains Retreat. Just to get my 2 Bahts worth in. To all those tourists and ex pats who have already been moaning about this on some other forums. If you can't survive a day without buying booze you have a problem. Yes we all know there are places you can go that will happily 'bend' the rules and sell you alcohol but please don't flout the rules and offend religious Thai people.

All this means is you have to drink whatever booze you already have at home.  Do people really go to the store every time they want a drink?  Buy a six pack and keep it in the fridge for Greg's sake.

Are they the same religious Thai people who illegally sell you the booze?
