I think you have to prove you were vaccinated to go to Phuket. Problem will be if they have been infected with the Indian Delta variant and upon arrival test negative then it blooms into full infection

Domestic travelers do not have to be vaccinated. They only have to produce a negative COVID PCR test taken within the past 72 hours.  That's one of the problems with the sandbox. Domestic travelers face far less restrictions and regulation.

It’s worse than that. The rules say PCR test or antigen test within 7 days for domestic travellers to Phuket Sandbox! 7 days! You’ve time to catch it and get up to maximum infection rate in 7 days.

The Thailand economy is dominated by exports of manufactured products, especially associated with the motor vehicles industry.

But they do rely heavily on imported (I think that’s the right word) labour from countries presently handling the virus better than Thailand. Well reported cases anyway.

Problem with this is when you have to shut down your manufacturing plants to control the virus like is happening in some areas at present.

but least with some, even though minute, input of tourism and repatriation then the country is getting some monetary assistance.

Thnx. But even If is the case, no I s is going to get me to openly travel right now out of CM. No one is vaccinated here I know.

They need to apply the same stringent restrictions on domestic travelers that they do on the international travelers in order for the sandbox to be successful.

That's nice in theory, but in reality it's impossible and will be impossible for at least 6 months or more.

How?

Maybe 30 to 35% of those actually on Phuket have been fully vaccinated, so what about the other 70% if they leave the island and can't go home?

All the Uni students from Phuket, but at uni elsewhere?

All the schoolkids who can't go on school trips off the island except with their parents in tow, if the parents are fully vaccinated?

Only 4% of Thais are fully vaccinated, so who's going to deliver petrol, food, clothes, and anything else?  New cars? Spare parts? Building materials?

What about all those who've left over the last year?

It's just impossible until far more in Thailand are vaccinated - Phuket can't exist or survive in isolation, and that's what imposing international restrictions on domestic travel would mean.

Yes that is true - although the economic impact takes much longer to show itself. A sudden drop in tourism is immediately felt in that economic sector, but a slow down in manufacturing takes a while longer, and is also offset by the corresponding drop in imported goods and services used in that manufacturing.

The situation in Bangkok and surrounds is clearly getting worse, and looks like it will take a big hit as more and more manufacturing is closed down.
