Rumours are circulating of tensions between PM Prayut Chan-o-cha and deputy PM Prawit Wonguwon. According to the rumours, Prawit was offended by Prayut’s comments during a teleconference call about the flood situation with provincial governors at the Interior Ministry.  Prayut was quoted as saying that he did not want a welcoming committee when visiting provinces hit by floods. Prayut was also quoted as saying he did not want to burden people in these provinces, the Bangkok Post reported. He was quoted as saying that he was healthy and could take care of himself.  Prawit had made visits to flood-stricken provinces […]

Rumours of tension between Prayut and Prawit over flood comments

"Rumours of tensions between Prayut and Prawit are nothing new. Last year, another rumour circled that the two were having a conflict after the sacking of two of Prawit’s close aids. "

What?

How dare they imply that General Prawit is unhappy.

Someone needs to wake up the General immediately and inform him.

I think stories like this are the beginning of the end for Prayut, and there is not a snowflake's chance in hell that the BP would print it unless they could back it up somehow; I assume that rumours of a rift between Prayut and Prawit are true. And, as the governing alliance begins to break down, old feelings are bound to surface; Prawit was the 'Senior', but Prayut the 'Junior' got all the fame and glory. Moreover, the BP ran a story this morning naming the ex-Chief of Police as a likely PM nominee for the PPRP; anyone think that would occur without Prawit's blessing and push? Finally, there is the simple matter that Prayut has most certainly accumulated many enemies during his time in power, and now that he has been weakened, they'll be out in force; forgive me, but isn't it the Thai way to kick a man when he is down? And, with a mob?

Politics is a funny business; yes, the person who wields the powers of an Office has some actual power, but political power in general is ephemeral. Simply put, if people think that you have political power, then you have political power. If people don't think that you have political power, then you don't.

Prayut has been mortally wounded, but we have to wait a bit for him to be finished off. The absence from the Office of the Prime Minister for over a month has meant that the 'shine' is gone and people can imagine political life without him; that is a political death knell. Moreover, when the court stated that he could only stay for more two years, even if he won re-election, means that his end date is already set, and once a politician's end date is set, he is done.

There might be some among you who feel that he'll hang on and perhaps return to "Glory" (puke), but I think that you are mistaken; once a politician loses his MoJo, he is done. Moreover, the idea that Prayut does NOT have enemies, many enemies, among the Bangkok Elite is laughable; Prayut for eight years was useful, Prayut for ten or twelve years is a threat.

The knives are out for him, and he knows it.

My 'Spidey Sense' is that no serious political party is even going to nominate him for the PM slot in the up-coming election; he is a liability now, not an asset. Had he been smart and not driven by ego, he would have called it quits when the court case arose, but proper ego-management by politicians is an oxymoron.

And, writing this makes me quite happy; I think he should have been put against the wall for organizing and launching a coup.

But, a warning...

Whoever is in the wings from the Royalist/Establishment might be worse.

Scary stuff.

Maybe not, Pnut and co have run a tight ship and suppressed any would be usurpers.

Next election frought with too many unknowns and the decider is the push bike rider in Germany. He'll go with the wind direction.

The old guard will be gone Pnut , overstayed his welcome, figuratively and soon legally, the others will have made a trip to their Wat for the last time due to old age.

Interesting future coming up. Hopefully a peaceful transition.

And of course you can never discount someone in the military having gone to the temple and thrown the bones (looked at his bank account) and decides he would make a better PM than any of them.
