A Thai minister urged politicians and government officials to avoid wearing suits and ties and opt for Thai-fabric clothes instead. The minister says Thai fabric is suited to the kingdom’s climate and would help the government save energy. The latest non sequitur accomplishing nothing, but gaining a bit of recognition for one individual.

It would be helpful if they specified what Thai fabric was.  Most of Thailand's fabrics are focused on synthetics, particularly petro chemical derived products such polyester, so Ii don't know how wearing more of it will reduce energy use. 

I find that Thai silk is heavy and lacks the breathability and softness of Chinese silk. Thai silk is good for bed spreads and table clothes and  heavier formal wear. It doesn't have the durability for everyday pants and office wear. Besides,  the  silk clothing isn't easily available to those who would be buying it and it's expensive. My  silk pajamas lasted 1 year before disintegrating.

.Do they mean cotton? If so, Thailand  imports most of its cotton from China.
