If they can't be trusted with firearms off duty maybe, they need to check them in and not be allowed to carry them off duty.

Allegedly drunk with a firearm in a car, what could possibly go wrong ?

Surprise surprise a Thai policeman who is arrogant feels he is above the law and gun happy. Prison would appear to be the most appropriate punishment but I would not hold my breath.

They absolutely should not be allowed to carry them off duty. Drunk police officers shoot people on a regular basis in Thailand - noodle vendor in Phuket who's paralyzed because a drunk officer randomly shot him unprovoked, Arab man who got in a fight with an off duty officer at a street bar over a girl and the officer followed him to his condo and shot him dead, these things happen alarmingly frequently here.
