The fire could be caused by faulty electrical cables which are entangled with communication cables. There is no way communication cables catching fire by itself. Only short circuit in electrical cables cause electrical fire which will eventually spread to other combustible materials...

It would be interesting to understand which lines amongst the spaghetti tangle of wires actually caught fire!

There are likely some old copper wires amongst the fibre optic and cable lines, used by the old PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). Copper wires can carry a small electrical current in them to power the network, but it is unlikely these are a source unless there is a live breakage somewhere amongst them all.

Plastic coatings can melt and burn if the heat is enough. But I also do wonder what "live" electrical wires might happen to be amongst them as well.

Take some steps if even just baby steps to address the problem... it doesn't have to happen all at once, but start somewhere...

One idea... instead of the gov't being responsible... hold the electric co and the communication companies accountable to clean up after themselves
