New plans are underway to help expand Bangkok’s nightlife tourism. Bangkok Governor Chadchar Sittipunt said yesterday that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is talking to experts about decorating some areas so they can become attractions. These are mainly spots in downtown areas and riverside zones, he said.  Chadchart has also announced a plan for Bangkok to become a sister city of Venice, Italy. The Cabinet moved forward with the decision to allow foreign visitors with the virus to enter Thailand while removing the virus from a list of forbidden diseases in foreign visitors.

Interesting how this may affect the pending requirement for O-A visa holders to purchase Covid insurance as of 1st of October.

Add a soi Indian to soi cowboy?  Make Sukhumvit soi 4 into a walking street? More German beer gardens, outdoor old-style.

Thailand has built a city to combat rising sea levels. 

Bangkok, it just doesn't work with all those streets and klongs.

How about start by letting nightlife venues open late already? 2am is way too early for tourists. Other than puritan jerks who want to control others and make up excuses like drunk driving* there is zero reason to close that early.

* Tourists are not the ones drunk driving usually. If that's the concern then it's not valid for venues that target mainly tourists. Next.

What tourists are really being effected by the 2am closing with plenty of after hours places open

 

The young backpackers/gap year kids know they can go out all night

 

The sexpat tourists know they can find places that stay open.

 

Those are the two main groups that would be looking to stay out late and it's pretty known by those group that they can

Not sure where you think an extra soi could be "added" to Cowboy, or do you mean to convert an existing soi into a separate dedicated bar area for Indian tourists?

The issue with trying to make Soi Nana into a "walking street" is that it provides access to many residential areas farther down, so it can't really be allowed to be blocked.

After hour places tend to be illegal, small, extreme fire hazards. Not to mention limited attendance. I'd much rather continue drinking until 4-5am in an established safer venue with fire exits and a good size crowd instead of scrambling from one illegal hole to the next after 2am.

But let's put it another way - why not? is there any actual reason NOT to allow it? other than puritanism.

Of course I agree with you it would be better to be in legal establishments

 

Although I would disagree about the safety aspect

Most after hour places are regular bars/discos, so they aren't any less safe than any other place 

 

But my point was, the people coming  to Thailand to party are well aware they can party into the morning

 

So the 2am closing hardly hurts tourism

I wouldn't discount the allure of after hour places

 

People like to feel they are partying places they shouldn't

 

And also like to feel they doing together with a bunch of people 

 

Way back in the day there was a famous after hours place in Patong, right outside town, Safari 

It was packed and people looked forward to changing things up and heading there after the bars closed

 

I mentioned being in Chiang Mai in June

When the popular Zoe in Yellow closes all the people March down the street together to the after hour places by the moat
