Thaiger Posted September 20, 2022 #249196 Share Posted September 20, 2022 A top Chinese health official advised the public against touching foreigners after China recorded its first monkeypox infection in the southwestern city of Chongqing on Friday. Chief Epidemiologist at the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wu Zunyou posted on Weibo to advise Chinese people to avoid “skin-to-skin contact with foreigners” if they want to be safe from monkeypox… “In order to prevent possible monkeypox infection and as part of our healthy lifestyle, it is recommended that 1) you do not have direct skin-to-skin contact with foreigners.” On Monday, China’s CDC said that they detected the virus in […] The story Official warns against touching foreigners after monkeypox arrives in China as seen on Thaiger News. Rookiescot Posted September 20, 2022 #249208 Share Posted September 20, 2022 It's ironic is it not? IF the world had closed its borders to Chinese people then it's possible Covid would never have become an issue. Of course at that point China would have claimed such action was racist. But advising people to avoid "dirty foreigners" (where did I hear that before?) is perfectly acceptable.
Poolie Posted September 20, 2022 #249214 Share Posted September 20, 2022 This was since modified, many hours before Thaiger published it, to read: ' Dont have intimate direct skin to skin contact with foreigners who enter China within three weeks, and are from countries where monkeypox occurs frequently and may get infected.' In other news, wastewater samples from Long Island, New York have signaled a growing community spread of polio myelitis. www.politico.com

If not and it gets a foothold, ZJP will really have serious problems.

But advising people to avoid "dirty foreigners" (where did I hear that before?) is perfectly acceptable. Question: When did the Chinese official mention "dirty foreigners". Question: Last month the New England Journal of Medicine published this report; Overall, 98% of the persons with infection were gay or bisexual men, 75% were White, and 41% had human immunodeficiency virus infection; the median age was 38 years. Transmission was suspected to have occurred through sexual activity in 95% of the persons with infection. Monkeypox Virus Infection in Humans across 16 Countries — April–June 2022; August 25, 2022 N Engl J Med 2022; 387:679-691 DOI: 10.1056/NEJMoa2207323 In consideration of the above, what is scientifically incorrect about the recommendation to avoid skin on skin contact with foreigners. By a foreigner, I interpret this to mean, people who are legally defined as foreign to the country. People who are in the country on long stay visas such as students, or residents are not the intended group of foreigners mentioned. It is logical to limit contact with newcomers such as tourists, until they pass a 21 day in country "quarantine" period. As an aside, in the study of 528 infected people, there were no Asians. I see the Chinese position as based upon existing evidence, albeit politically incorrect. Your reference to Covid, is not reasonable. By the time that Covid was recognized for its mainland China characteristic, it was too late to specifically ban one demographic since the infection had spread in the preceding months. The classic illustration was that of Koh Samui, high season 2019. The infection was already in the EU, and then brought to Koh Samui by foreign tourists, particularly Italians and Germans who infected other foreign tourists, who in turn carried the infection back to their native countries. Banning Chinese nationals would have done little to stop the spread, since the disease had already been imported to Europe with events such as fashion week in Milan months earlier. Note however, that restrictions were indeed put on Chinese visitors during the SARS pandemic a decade earlier, so this isn't a double standard. Janneman Posted September 20, 2022 #249270 Share Posted September 20, 2022 Well yes. Talking in percentages can be confusing: Overall 50% of the infected persons in Thailand were female. All Thai. Of the infected men 25% were Thai, 25% were of african origine, and 50% were White. So 75% of all cases in Thailand were non-White. And 62,5% of all cases were Thai. No mention was made if the men were gay or bi. Considering the large adult industry in Thailand it is safe to say that 100% of all cases were transmitted sexually. So as a tourist it is logical to avoid contact with any Thai? And especially with Thai working in the adult industry?

ShibaBud Posted September 21, 2022 #249302 Share Posted September 21, 2022 Izit just another of the coincidences that many "mysterious" & surprising diseases crop up during these past 2+ years of pandemic, during which people avoided contact more than normal?
