There seems to be some conflicting perspectives on extension of stay. The accepted view here is that a spouse permit of stay can be extended for 60 days without crossing the border, however I have read elsewhere that a 12 month extension of stay is possible. Is this information correct ? Thanks. Clarifying this will inform my decision on whether to get a single entry ‘O’ immigration visa or a multiple entry ‘O’ visa.

You can extend your permission of stay for 60 days based on visiting Thai spouse, with no financial requirement. Immigration Bureau Order 327-2557 (2014) - Criteria for extension ENG.pdf  (section 2.24), or alternatively you can apply to extend your permission of stay for 12 months (section 2.18). Financial requirements apply.

Which option you choose is really dependent on how long you intend to visit/stay and your financial status. If you can deposit 400K THB in a Thai bank account for 2 months, then the SE Non Imm O to enter Thailand, then extend the permission of stay for an additional 12 months.
