Pattaya has drafted some new rules this week for ‘sea-walker’ tourists, a.k.a divers to protect its coral reefs. If the rules take effect, there will be codified underwater zones where divers can walk. These zones should have no coral, if possible. If it’s not possible to create entire zones with no coral, then divers won’t be allowed to come within five metres of a reef. Another rule would be that sea-walking zones cannot be home to any animals, and cannot be areas that authorities are trying to rehabilitate. You'll be literally visiting their home... How are they going to do that?

Nice of course, and it may help to protect a few hundred meters of reefs. But it would be better if they stopped all dumping of untreated wastewater, garbage, and various chemicals in the ocean.

Let the corals enjoy their way of life in nature. Just humans mind their own business and don't trespass into coral's territory. Corals never invite humans to visit them.
