Have they've been contacted by the restaurant yet, claiming their share?

Interesting. My advise to them would be to slow their enthusiasm to sell quickly. As melo pearls can range in value up to $200k USD if large enough. They would be wise to seek out a reputable jewelry broker or auction house. Selling for $28k (1 million baht) may be a mistake.
