Recommended Posts

Following an accident last night where 27 people were injured due to crowding and falling down an escalator, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt is looking to decrease overcrowding at train stations. The governor said that one possibility could be to limit the number of people that can enter crowded stations. Chadchart said this would possibly be an option pending consultation with train operators. Chadchart said today that he has now assigned his deputy to work with the operators of the BTS, MRT and Airport Rail Link lines to handle riders rushing to their trains.  Chadchart noted that these crowding incidents like […]

Escalators have always been dangerous, people get off them and then STOP to look around unaware that people behind them have no where to go.

Think in this instance there may have been a bit of push and shove at the wrong time and place.

Travelator at the airport-had a young lady prop at the end, drop her suitcase and open it. Disgusted that people were trampling through her belongings.

The span of awareness is quite astounding among some.

Well the governor is wrong sticking his nose into it same as the police. Isolated incident that allows them to grandstand. Ever been at the Siam stop at about 5 - 6pm? Talk about nuts.

There is no reason more BTS trains can't be added so a train enters each station every 5 minutes or even less. That alone will reduce crowding.  During peak times BTS always tries to get as many people onto a train as they can.  That creates the backup, the crowding and the constant delays.  More trains do not need to be all day but only during peak hours. Also extend the time considered peak hours by 30 minutes at both ends.

If people only would hold the rail! It only takes one ignorant person who loses his balance and everyone will fall like a full bowlingstrike.

Sorry but I won’t hold the rail because I’ve seen peoples lack of hand hygiene when they come out of the toilet etc  but I’m always aware front and behind when on one.

A non-story. And it certainly doesn't warrant the apointment of some special deputy to solve the problem. Limit the amount of people allowed in? Its already self-limiting just based on size/people capacity. Thats what a line is for. Once in 10 years a minor incident on an escalator occurs and there has to be some panel to decide what to do. Tokyo manages, New York manages, as does Seoul, Shanghai, London and hundreds of other public transport hubs.  Work on or write about traffic and driving issues, massive plastic and energy waste, sub-par education, or anything else. Yes i'm sounding a bit  bitter but its just another ridiculous story in our LOS.

Don't forget about nose pickers. I try to avoid the rails everywhere possible.

....people get off them and then STOP to look around. Same with elevators. Complete disregard for surroundings. They live in their own private world.

Many do this and block the path way. Just don't understand why
