Japan’s alcohol sales have gone way down since Covid-19 restrictions, and the government is desperate to bring them up again. Numbers show that Japan’s young drink quite significantly less than its old. While about 30% of people in their 40s to 60s drink regularly, only 7.8% of people in their 20s do. The only part that is surprising to me is that 40s to 60s cohort only registers 30%. I would have thought much higher… I noticed this sign at a local bar this past week… If customers can prove with photo ID they are aged 20 to 25, they get a free drink.
