They check before boarding, not on arrival.

I have been coming to Thailand for 20 years now, and mostly with Thai Airways. The airline has always checked that my visa, or lack of, is in line with my return flight. But the return flight or minimum amount of money have never been checked by immigration on arrival at Suwanaphum.
