A popular waterfall on Doi Suthep mountain in the northern province of Chiang Mai is brimming with E. coli bacteria from human feces, warns Dr. Rungsrit Kanjanavanit, a Green Globe award-winning conservationist and professor of cardiology at Chiang Mai University. Doi Suthep's temple and tourist venues, food and souvenir stalls attract many 1,000's of visitors daily.  I can only assume the toilet facilities are quite ancient, probably inadequate, and septic overflow, especially in monsoon season, may be responsible.
