Recommended Posts

A foundation in Pattaya is concerned about stereotypes against transgender people. This news follows a series of thefts against Indian tourists this year, many by transgender people. Most of the thefts involve transgender people snatching gold necklaces off tourists’ necks. However, there was also an incident this week when an Indian tourist said a transgender person stole his wallet. One foundation has said yesterday that tourists are now being “noticeably vigilant” around transgender workers. The deputy director of the Pattaya Sisters Foundation, Pornpipat Phothasin, said she suspects that the same group of people is repeatedly stealing from tourists. Pornpipat said […]

Pornpipat is urging people not to stereotype the transgender community

People are just noticing patterns and acting accordingly. This is a major human survival and adaptation strategy, and it can't be turned off, for good reason.

and says the group of people stealing around Pattaya doesn’t represent the entire community

Of course not. Everyone knows that. I don't think anyone thinks that all people of some kind do some bad thing. Everything is about tendencies, not absolutes.

I wish people would try to be adults about this. It's OK to look at the situation and say "well, people who look like me have given others good reason to be suspicious." Really, it's OK, you can do it.

I am worried that some people might do their job and catch this particular group which I find funny how they are worried about the transgender people but not about the Indian people who are getting robbed. The world certainly is becoming a strange place to live in these days.

Amen.  That is the fundamental definition of intelligence, the ability to notice a pattern where others see only random, unrelated facts.

That being said, by recognizing the pattern and wanting to avoid being robbed, I will avoid being an Indian showoff who walks around trying to impress people by wearing a gold necklace.  Voila!  No problems.

So to avoid robberies the police will now arrest transgenders who are behaving suspiciously at night, at the beach.

Are transgenders the only criminals in Pattaya? Or are there also non-transgender criminals?

Maybe they should be more worried about that in the community of trangenders are a group, that stereotypes "wealthy" (looking) foreigners, here mostly Indians, as a target for their crimes. Aside, the culprits are mostly known, in these minority communities. So the community could rule 'em out. If they wouldn't be so busy, to try to get the p.c. on their side.

Seeing Indian tourists with 30k gold chains in Pattaya is as rare a winning the grand national on a Shetland Pony.

This recent gold snatching robberies are just insurance claim scams it's well known here is Pattaya and I dare say to The RTP.

However charging an Indian tourists with making a false claims to the RTP at the moment would not go down well as their probably the only tourists group coming to Pattaya in numbers.

Don't get me wrong I  trust Pattaya Beach Road Lambert & Butlers about as much as I trust Joe Biden on the economy but these stories about gold chain scams are blown out out of  proportion.

They've been stereotyped for a very long time.

Over 20 years ago these pests would accost you in the street at night and seemingly attempt to grope you while looking for your wallet.

They have to get money somehow. So if it’s not in the bedroom then they either need jobs or have to steal to survive. The tourists are gullible and stupid flashing wealth and are a perfect target. I button my wallet and phone pocket and if someone comes close to me I automatically put my hand over my wallet

The transgender society (and they are VERY close knit) know who this group is and will not give them up.  Scared ??? payback??? who knows??  Maybe post covid they will quieten down, but i doubt it, easy baht.

Whether the transgender community like it or not, the reputation is deserved  - all but one of the several attempts at picking my pocket in Thailand (that I have been aware of) have been by ladyboy hugger-muggers.

Why are people so stupid as to wear flashy gold jewelery and have big fat wallets in their pockets around these places? Why not just wear a sign saying " Look at Me, ready to be Robbed " lol. I carry a bit of cash, no wallets, jewelery, watches, nothing. And the last time a ladyboy tried the hug and grab shit with me, she was told to get lost or get kicked with my ripple souls, she took another step towrds me, and I charged at her and her friend on the motorbike, they soon got the message and just got away lol. Never happened again in the 7 years I stayed in Patong, and doesn't happen anymore when I'm in Bangkok in Nana area etc. Just be street smart, don't be a target. But I have seen lots of Indian men openly talking to the ladymen, I think they get robbed after they get nailed lol.

I got the "grab my nuts and steal your money" in Bangkok Suk Soi 24

A very quiet soi my hotel was on

3 basically men in dresses came up on me

They only got 1k because I was making a 7-11 run but it pissed me off

We called the police and went down to the station

They had 3 stacks of mugshots

All ladyboys.....
