It happens in every part of the world. This is mainly because people don't want to restructure their life style based on their situational changes. Many are trying to live other people's lifestyle with fantasies. No one can change them. And Thai people are not exceptional for that. In fact they are more inclined towards it.....They don't want to loose face, and they rather prefer to face the consequences and end up as "cry baby". No one can help them unless they wake-up from their dreams

To borrow from a bank (was about 5% some time ago) you have to have a recognized employer, ie Govt, (all departments), a recognized international company or/and in some cases a few guarantors of reputation who will endorse your loan or put up collateral, house, land etc.

The next line of loans comes from people who only charge 10% per annum, but you have to present the papers for a motor bike, car or deeds from your house or land and this may get you 50% of the value in loan.

Thirdly their is the village fund that can be drawn against, locally up to 20,000 baht only and must reside in the village.  Not all villagers can get this loan, village drunks etc bad luck.

These first three sections only caters for about 40% of the Thai population, the rest are easy meat for the 10% per thieves.

From personal knowledge and experience, in general, Thais do not save to purchase anything.

"Borrow and get now" seems to be the rule.

There is not a thai that borrow money for food

get your head out of the sand wake up from your dream world
