Rescuers searching for a missing tourist in Chiang Mai have found a broken helmet and a lifejacket about 2 kilometres away from where the tourist fell into a river.  The man, 30 year old Nicolas Hinckxt, fell off a rubber dinghy while rafting with 2 of his friends in the in Mae Taeng river yesterday. Worry now  is that he managed to get to shore dumping the jacket and helmet and is injured and lost, maybe concussion.

I find this to be consistent across most of Thailand.  You really take your life into your own hands when you agree to go with any of these people making the bare minimum to operate rain or shine.

Good point.  This is why you trust no one.  I don't do these types of activities when travelling for this very reason.  As a tourist, don't ride a motorbike, jet ski or any of these rafting or hang gliding type of activities, just not worth the risk

Why on earth did the tour guide take the men to do rafting with such a bad weather?

It's been raining for three days and really it hasn't stopped raining for a year now.

The water rapids are extremely strong. The guide should 've cancelled the trip.

Saw the river on the TV and it was total torrential flash flooding, I wouldn't have thrown a soi dog in there it was that bad.
