A woman in northeast Thailand has died this week while chasing down another biker who nabbed her her gold chain. The woman, 47 year old Somchit, had been driving her motorcycle home after going to the bank, when another biker started to move closer to her. The biker then snatched her chain. The incident happened in the main city district of Sisaket province. Somchit sped after the thief, only to crash into a fence. A Good Samaritan brought Somchit to Sisaket Hospital. There, she told her daughter what had happened. But Somchit tragically succumbed to her injuries the next day. […]

How dreadfully tragic.

I only hope that her daughter can take some comfort from knowing her Mum died in an unself way.

Gotta start enforcing laws and regulations, and vastly increasing the penalties involved. And gotta make potential thieves think twice. For starters, no license place, 20,000 baht fine.

Surely, if someone dies whilst being robbed, shouldn't the thief bear some responsibility for the death, just saying ...

I will ask the Thai government to tighten the law. For such thefts, a minimum of 5 years in prison and 100,000bat compensation for the injured party. Not counting that he will get a rubber truncheon through his back every day in prison, so that he does not forget how to live properly

Bikes with no licence plates, bikes with too many passengers, bikes ridden by unlicensed riders, bikers not wearing crash helmets. All crimes which the police choose to ignore daily (unless they are looking for a bit of cash) no wonder when people see the police ignoring crimes they are emboldened to commit more serious crimes. When exactly will the Thai authorities wake up to the fact that they appear to have a lawless corrupt police service which is considered a joke by the world?

You don't drive a motorbike, or drive an airplane or ship, you drive a car/truck/bus, you pilot an aircraft and skipper/captain a ship and you ride a motorcycle
