Thailand has logged another maritime mishap with the fire on a passenger ferry, about 5 kilometres off the coast of Chumpon. The sea conditions were reported as “rough” at the time of the incident off the uninhabited Koh Thong Lang. This accident is the norm in Thailand across all sectors of public transport. The three main factors are:

1. Lack of maintenence.

2. Lack of Government policies for regular inspection of public and private transport.

3. No formal training and licenced personnel.
